Maintenance Person
We are seeking a Maintenance Person to join our team at Swarkestone Nursery and Garden Centre. This is a full-time position working 5 days per week, including 1 weekend day per week. This role is vital in ensuring the smooth operation and upkeep of our garden centre and restaurant facilities.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on nursery/ horticultural equipment, catering equipment, facilities, and infrastructure.
- Be able to use your joinery, painting and decorating skills to build retail benching and structures for events i.e. pumpkin patch and grotto.
- Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and plumbing issues efficiently, and liaise with contractors when required for extra support on more technical issues.
- Troubleshoot telecomms and internet issues, and liaise with our telecomms provider if required.
- Utilise and maintain our CCTV and alarm security systems.
- Supervise maintenance activities and coordinate with team members.
- Ensure safety standards are maintained during all maintenance operations.
- Assist with installation of new equipment or infrastructure upgrades.
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing facility-related inquiries or concerns.
- Key holder and lock up the site at least once per week.
Qualifications
- Proven experience with electrical and plumbing systems, and mechanical knowledge.
- Strong maintenance skills with a focus on safety and efficiency.
- Supervising or leadership experience is advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Normal working hours are 9am-5.30pm Monday-Saturday, and 9.30am-4.30pm on Sundays.

Plant Area Assistant
Our Plant Area is home to a wide variety of herbaceous perennials, shrubs, alpines, trees, fruit and house plants.
Candidates must have strong horticultural knowledge, and be able to demonstrate a very high level of plant knowledge. We place a very high value on customer service, hard work and teamwork.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Maintaining and watering plant stock. Jobs to include weeding, pruning, deadheading etc.
- Maintaining a strong and up-to-date horticultural knowledge
- Striving to satisfy customer expectations including assisting customer with advice and carrying products to cars
- Merchandising and creating visual displays to help sell products
- Processing new delivered stock using our EPOS system
- Work is fast-paced and requires manual handling
- General housekeeping and any other duties required by management
Hours
We are able to offer the position either part time or full time, working four or five days per week, and also have the opportunity to offer seasonal flexible working patterns (working more hours April-July, and less throughout Winter). You must be able to work one weekend day per week.
Normal working hours are 9am-5.30pm Monday-Saturday, and 9.30am-4.30pm on Sundays.

Restaurant Supervisor
This is full-time, permanent vacancy working 5 days a week, including alternate weekends.
We operate daytime hours only (8.30am-5pm). No evening work or split shifts. Free on-site parking.
We have an established 300+ cover restaurant, with a spacious kitchen using modern appliances (i.e. Rational ovens and Merrychef). We offer cooked breakfasts, hot homemade lunches, paninis, sandwiches, freshly baked cakes, afternoon tea, hot and cold drinks. We have undergone a major renovation including an extension, and therefore are looking for experienced candidates only.
The right candidate must be hard-working, willing to get stuck-in, self-motivated and have excellent hospitality/ customer service skills. You will need to demonstrate great leadership skills and the ability to build a high performing team.
The Supervisor is responsible for general running of the restaurant, with the support of the management team. This includes offering great customer service, placing orders, stock control, maintaining EPOS till operations (training will be provided), being a keyholder (opening and locking-up the site), operating our bean-to-cup coffee machines and staff training.

Marketing Assistant

About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and creative Marketing Assistant to support our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys a varied role and wants to gain hands-on experience across different aspects of marketing, communications, and office support.
You will assist with social media management, content creation, marketing campaigns, and event support, while also helping with light administrative tasks within the office.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing & Content
- Assist with planning, creating, and scheduling content for social media platforms
- Support the website updates and inter-platform maintenance
- Help maintain brand consistency across all marketing channels
- Monitor social media engagement and respond to comments/messages where appropriate
- Assist with basic marketing reporting and analytics
Events & Campaigns
- Support the planning and promotion of events, campaigns, and initiatives
- Assist with event preparation, logistics, and on-the-day coordination when required
Office & Administrative Support
- Provide general administrative support to the team
- Help organise marketing assets, documents, and content libraries
- Assist with data entry and maintaining marketing databases
Skills & Experience
- Interest in marketing, communications, or digital media
- Strong written communication and attention to detail
- Comfortable using social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube)
- Basic design or content creation skills (Adobe, or similar tools beneficial)
- Good organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks

Part time Baker
This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate baker to work within The Garden Restaurant at Swarkestone Nursery. You will have creative freedom to bake whatever you think our visitors will love. You will be working as part of a wider restaurant team, baking and serving customers.
Ideally the right candidate would have experience baking in a commercial kitchen, with level 2 certificate in food safety & hygiene, but training will be provided for our state-of-the-art ovens.
Part - time position available.
Must be able to work every Sunday.
Daytime hours only, approx 8.30am-5pm.
Free car parking provided.
Hourly rate paid – negotiable dependent on experience
