Garden Centre Shop Manager

Following an exciting internal promotion, we’re looking for an exceptional Garden Centre Shop Manager to take the reins of our indoor retail operation and help drive the next phase of our growth.

This is more than a management role — it’s an opportunity to shape a vibrant retail experience. You’ll take ownership of key product areas including garden sundries and décor, furniture, compost, giftware, and our ever-popular Christmas range. From product selection and buying to creating inspiring displays, you’ll play a central role in how our customers experience the store.

We’re looking for a natural leader who can energise and motivate a team, bringing out their best to maximise sales and deliver outstanding customer service. You’ll have a flair for presentation, creating eye-catching, trend-led displays that appeal to both passionate gardeners and casual visitors alike. From everyday merchandising standards to show-stopping seasonal displays, especially at Christmas, your creativity will shine through.

Alongside leading a team of around 15 colleagues (including three supervisors/buyers), you’ll also oversee our busy tills operation and ensure smooth day-to-day running across the shop floor. Organisation, clear communication, and a calm, solutions-focused approach will be key to your success.

What we’re looking for:

• Proven experience in a supervisory, buying, or management role within garden retail or a similar environment
• A strong commercial mindset with a passion for driving sales and profitability
• Excellent leadership and people management skills
• A keen eye for detail and high standards in merchandising and presentation
• A creative flair, particularly for seasonal and Christmas displays
• Outstanding customer service skills and a positive, proactive attitude

You’ll work as part of a supportive management team, typically 5 days per week (including 50% of weekends), ideally Sunday to Thursday.

Part-time Baker

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate baker to work within The Garden Restaurant at Swarkestone Nursery. You will have creative freedom to bake whatever you think our visitors will love. You will be working as part of a wider restaurant team, baking and serving customers.

Ideally the right candidate would have experience baking in a commercial kitchen, with level 2 certificate in food safety & hygiene, but training will be provided for our state-of-the-art Rational ovens.

Part - time position available, working every Friday and Saturday.

Daytime hours only, approx 8.30am-5pm.

Free car parking provided.

Hourly rate paid – negotiable dependent on experience
